Attorney Abilheira’s client was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (ADW) after allegedly hitting a woman over the head with a chair. After several interviews with the complaining witness, Attorney Abilheira found serious holes and inconsistences in her story, which she relayed to the Department of the Attorney General. As a result, the prosecutor agreed to amend the charge from an ADW, a crime that carries up to twenty (20) years in jail, to Disorderly Conduct, a petty misdemeanor. As a result, the client was sentenced to the lowest possible sanction allow by law, a one year filing, which is not a criminal conviction.

Outcome: Amended to disorderly conduct with a one year filing
