Attorney Allison C. Belknap is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Allison handles a wide range of traffic offenses, criminal matters, divorce and family law disputes, and will and estate planning.

Legal Experience

In April 2013, Allison successfully argued, State of Rhode Island v. Doris Poulin, before the Rhode Island Supreme Court. This case set a precedent allowing criminal defendants who had pled nolo contendere and received a sentence of probation, to be able to seal criminal records relating to other charges.​

Allison has also defended individuals in misdemeanor criminal cases including DUI’s, disorderly conduct, domestic assault, shoplifting, and vandalism. Allison also handled chemical test refusals and traffic violations at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal.

​During law school, Allison prosecuted cases for the towns of East Providence and Charlestown, Rhode Island, under the Town Solicitor of the towns. She also interned with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island.

​Education

Allison received her law degree from Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island, where she graduated cum laude. While at Roger Williams, Allison competed in mock appellate arguments on the Moot Court Team.​

Allison completed her Bachelor’s degree at Bryant University, magna cum laude. She majored in Politics and Law, and double minored in Psychology and Business Administration. While at Bryant, Allison helped establish a mock trial team and led the team at regional competitions.
