2016 Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade Leads to 80 Arrests
With the 60th annual Newport St. Patrick’s Day parade, thousands came into the small Rhode Island town to celebrate. Throughout the day, almost eighty (80) individuals were arrested in Newport alone, up from just fifty-seven (57) in 2015. Those arrested were charged with various crimes including:
- Minor in possession of alcohol (16)
- Disorderly conduct (12)
- Simple assault (4)
- Driving under the influence (2)
- Other misdemeanors (12)
In neighboring towns, police also increased patrols. Portsmouth Police arrested eight (8) individuals for DUI alone on Saturday night.
